Lloyds Bank used to have 3 branches in Newbury when this photograph was taken. This one shown in the Broadway. The main branch in Bridge Street, and a third branch in Bartholomew Street. From memory, this is probably where Botan is today.

You can clearly see the Alfreda School of Dancing next to Lloyds Bank.

Anybody remember La Rivierra Restaurant which used to occupy the premises on the extreme left of this picture? This picture may have been taken before they opened in Newbury, a Greek restaurant operated by the Chamilos family.

We had some wonderful evenings in that Restaurant..   Father and son were excellent hosts and serve good food.

Father and sons (Nick and Zak). The best steaks in Newbury and the Dover Sole was fantastic (cooked to perfection). They have been sadly missed.

My mum used to work at La Riviarra. I remember going on a picnic with my mum and Zac. Happy days

Nick and Zak Chamilos and their father. The Rivierra closed in the early eighties.

The picture is from a postcard - the print quality is pretty poor, you won't get much from zooming in.

The production line for the Hillman Imp opened in October 1963, and production was slow throughout 1964 due to strikes, so the picture showing a Hillman Imp has to be 1964 or later.

This is an early view of the Broadway reproduced for an old  Christmas card. The perspective is a bit doubtful but it is credited inside as.....
"From an original Lithograph by William F Austin London April 1862"
