A computer generated image of Middle Street in the new Parkway shopping centre currently under construction in Newbury. The view is looking north towards the proposed new Debenhams store. Debenhams are being paid £4 Million to relocate from their current site in the Kennet Shopping Centre.
The new shopping centre was due to open in time for Christmas 2010, but rumours persist that the project is behind schedule and may not open until the Summer of 2011.

Middle Street? What another missed opportunity. A local competition to name these streets would have taken our attention away from the massive disruption and 20 week delay. Doh!

Hang on, there's one chap on the right, there. And is that another beneath the E of Debenhams?

Where's the roof?

I can see a profitable future for a shop selling umbrellas. Particularly on a day like today

Looks just like Orchard St in Didcot, except there the cinema is at the end of the street.

By the time Carter has finished you'll be wishing you were "ANYWHERE ELSE"

It certainly captures that " Historic Market Town" feel, doesn't it?  I mean, there'd be no way of confusing it with anywhere else would there?

I can see it now ... a sign saying "Only two males at a time in this street" like they do in sweet shops. Actually there are 4 male figures in that image

'They' seem eager to promote the idea that the expected pedestrians will be relatively young and slim.

They are of course the local, trendy, middle class, big spenders. No sign of a Poundland and its associated shoppers in Middle Street thank you very much. Oh, no pensioners allowed either, cluttering up the exclusive shops with their electric scooters.

You could be right, maybe that's why all the faces you can see look very grumpy
