Past Times have announced that they are to open a new store in the Kennet Shopping Centre and are actively recruiting staff.
Past Times specialises in developing and selling quality products inspired by important design periods throughout history. The variety of products is extraordinary, ranging from household accessories and jewellery to gifts, toys, clothes, books, DVDs and much more.
Nearly all Past Times products have been developed exclusively for them and they have all been carefully selected to stand out from the crowd. They believe that each product has its own magic that will give the recipient enormous satisfaction.
Past Times was founded in 1986 as a mail order company and opened its first store in Oxford in June 1987. It now has over 90 stores throughtout the UK and Ireland.

Must be something invisible in their top 10.
Link works fine for me. They just don't show up on here until you pass the mouse over them. |

I do wish them the best of luck but I don't hold out much hope for them being open this time next year. There was one of these in The Oracle in Reading but it has closed down recently. I never went in as it didn't look like my kind of thing on glancing through the window and a quick visit just now to their website confirms that I was right with my original assessment. |

Any chance of filling one of the units in Kennet Shopping with a Gap or a H&M or a Zara? even a Burton or a Top Man would be an improvement on Bon Marche and Peacocks! |

Yes, an H&M would be particularly great. Although I wouldn't hold your breath about getting any of these in The Butts Kennet Shopping as I think they're more Oracle Parkway type shops, tbh. |

But why? why? why? I appreciate the actual size of some of the units are quite small so you are not going to attract big name clothes shops to them BUT if you have an H&M where TKMaxx is, A Zara in Peacocks, Next in Poundland and maybe a Burton in Bon Marche you have a totally different shopping centre altogether and one fitting for its location. I personally believe Kennet Shopping is where the main shopping centre in Newbury should be but in the last 10 years it has been reduced to what can only be described as one of the worst shopping malls in the UK.....IMO. |

Well I think there's room in the town for a downmarket shopping centre for the Peacocks/Poundland demographic as well as a more upmarket one for the affluent and/or younger crowd. If I ran GAP, Zara, etc, I know where I'd prefer to rent a unit. |

You're not a Zara or H&M type of person though are you? |

How old am I then? and what age groups do these shops cater for? and if you work in retail and you think Zara is cheap you are obviously not very good at your job. |

No I don't work 'in' retail. I have shopped in Zara and, maybe cheap is pushing it a bit but it's very reasonable (their image gives a different perception). You're probably right about the job though, I'm still learning. |

........ TKMaxx ......
Don't let them go!! Amazing bargains, they seem to sell end of range 'one off' bits for home and hearth. My mother thinks she got a very expensive birthday present recently plus I have exactly the same I pod speakers as my daughter - she paid £50 or thereabouts I paid £7. |

Isn't the whole point to cater for all tastes and styles? What is going to please one is going to horrify another. |

From what I hear Parkway has yet to sign up any tenants for the shops apart from Debenhams. No wonder they are already six months behund schedule. |

Well now isn't exactly the best time for a business to expand and open new branches, but I expect that will change as we emerge from the [recession/economic crisis/credit crunch]. Having said that, like many people in my age group I shall continue to do the majority of my shopping online. |

Exactly - no point in rushing the build when there is so little interest in taking on any of the shops. |
