Standard Life Investments has released the latest illustration of its exciting new mixed-use scheme in the heart of Newbury. The image shows what the Northbrook Street entrance, looking towards the new full range Debenhams department store, will look like when the new shopping centre opens in spring 2011.
The street scene shows how the listed building frontages of Northbrook Street are being retained and refurbished to provide an impressive entrance feature to Parkway – contemporary in design and yet in keeping with Newbury’s historic market town environment. |

err, opposite Waterstones - you know, where they have knocked a ruddy great hole in the high street. |

There are no buildings looming over the entrance - the new Debenhams for example. It will be very interesting to see this compared with the final result. The design looks okay - but why did they have to put this entrance in a place that involved knocking down listed buildings when there were unispired recent buildings to either side? |

Yes. All the Northbrook Street buildings demolished or part demolished were listed. |

So will they reinstate the Northbrook street frontage as a priority or will it be put on hold while they try and muster the finance to get back on track with the main development. |
