Newbury Racecourse will once again host West Berkshire’s greatest pyrotechnic display. This year’s spectacular event, organised by the Lions Club of Newbury, will be much more than just a Fireworks Display on Saturday 7th November. To the backdrop of the ‘War of the Worlds’ theme there will be special effects to complement the traditional fireworks so bringing this stirring music and words to life.
For 2009 in addition to the fireworks and fun fair there will be entertainment prior to the fireworks themselves, in the form of a dancing display by the All Stars Theatre Academy and Daphne Bennett School of Dancing. This display will take place from 6.45pm on the stage area, which will also be used by Newbury Sound who will provide music and entertainment for your enjoyment. The venue boasts a large sheltered area as well as offering excellent views of the firework display and plenty of free parking.
To help those who buy tickets in advance and save the really good news is there is a reduction in the price of some tickets for this year’s event. Tickets bought in advance are £4 for adults, £3 for those 5 to 16 years old and just £11 for a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) and are available from Tesco Superstore in Newbury, Newbury and Thatcham branches of Newbury Building Society and The Corn Exchange. On the night, entrance is £5 for everyone over the age of five.
Members of Newbury Lions will, as usual, be selling hot and cold drinks, burgers and hot dogs and running a bar – all at reasonable prices. The profit, in conjunction with the gate monies, is used to fund the numerous charitable requests we receive from within the local area. In the last 12 months this has amounted to in excess of £15,000 being donated to those in need within the local community. There will also be sales of doughnuts and novelties.
Safety is paramount for this event. The fireworks are separated from the public by the racetrack and 3 sets of fences so no one can get too close to the display. The Red Cross, as usual, will be on hand in case of any emergency.
As in previous years, and in line with DTI regulations, no sparklers will be sold or permitted on site.
The gates will open at 5.30pm and spectators can visit the fun fair and support the dancing displays before the firework display itself begins at 7.30pm. This event is always well supported, with the spectacular display again organised by Fireworks and FX Advanced Pyrotechnics Ltd, who promise 2009 will be even bigger and better than their previous displays.
Newbury Lions are most grateful for the support given by the Newbury Weekly News, Newbury Sound, Robinson Foods and Newbury Tools as well as their sponsors: Castle Windows, Donnington New Homes, Hillier and Wilson, BCL NuMdeia, The Newbury Group, Shirley Hughes Financial Services, Gardner Leader Solicitors and Newbury Building Society; with a special mention and thanks to Newbury Racecourse for providing this superb venue.
We look forward to welcoming all of you wishing to celebrate Guy Fawkes with an outstanding firework display at Newbury Racecourse on Saturday 7th November. |
