An important milestone in West Berkshire Council’s overall Newbury Vision 2025 has been reached this week, with the opening of a new cinema in the town.
The seven screen multiplex next to the Kennet Centre will be operated by Vue, and has capacity to seat around a 1000 people. The screens use the latest technology, including the capability to show some movies in 3D.
As a new entertainment venue for Newbury, the cinema should give a boost to the local economy by encouraging people to come into the town and spend time exploring the shops, or getting something to eat before watching a film.
The new cinema is an important element of the Newbury Vision 2025 which has already seen improvements to Northbrook Street, Market Place and Bartholomew Street as well as the new Parkway development which is currently under construction.
Graham Jones, Leader of West Berkshire Council said: “The opening of the new cinema is the completion of project which was originally initiated by residents. We are very pleased that we have been able to secure the building of this new 7 screen multiplex with a fantastic cutting edge projection system that can even show some movies in 3D. It will provide a great boost not just for Newbury but for the whole district.” |

But where does that leave the Thatcham Vision? The top public request there was for...a cinema! |

Amazing! A bit like the 'swimming pool fest' a while back. Spuce up Northcroft and they all want one. |

This can happen if the planning dept of WBC allow it as there is still room for another entertainment centre in the area. |
