Our roads are dangerous enough without people thinking they can concentrate steering heavy lumps of metal about whilst eating pies, smoking, using mobiles etc. etc. Accidents don't just happen.
(continuing the theme) ....listening to EXTREMELY loud music while you drive (and perhaps banging your head in appreciation)....
Another dangerous habit is picking your nose while driving (not me of course)... Followed someone on the A4 a few weeks ago who was obviously rooting around up there and spent the next couple of miles trying to flick the offending article off the end of his finger and out of the window!!
He was weaving all over the place in frustration!! (...and lacking concentration while doing so...)
Margerison was eventually fined £2000, lost his licence for three years and was ordered to pay £1000 costs. Seems to me that the jury needed it's collective heads examined.
Although slightly 'off subject' but ...... i believe the police can 'pull you' for drinking whilst driving (ie a bottle of water) stating that you arent in 'proper' control etc, so how come they wont 'pull you' for smoking, stating the same reasons?

Possibly as you need to tilt your head back slightly to drink and your arm can obscure your sight.
However that doesn't apply to eating a sandwich and they can do you for that too!
Thats a good point Noddy. Although, your arm can obscure your vision, but then again so can smoke going into your eyes. Its a difficult one eh. Also, you can drop a bottle, it can roll under the pedals etc, you can also drop a cigarette, burn yourself, lose control or worse still, set the car alight!! Dangerous world we live in
