It's the 1976 (or possibly78?) cull of the younglings, isn't it? Didn't get a lot of publicity at the time, but the borough council was once obliged by the Population Balancing Act (1842) to ensure that the ratio of young to old people remained within limits which were fixed on an biennial basis by the Ministry of Local Government. The victims obviously weren't told what was in store for them and were, as they were herded into the culling pens, under the impression that they were taking part in a 'Fun Day' in Vicky Park. |
