Used to go to the Plaza and also the Plaza Grill as part of the evening after. For your info Dick (sorry Dodgy) i also played in the Plaza and also at the CE when the Plaza closed. Our group still play occasional work at 60s revival nights. Not to much i must admit but we are still playing. We had some great events when Ray Marsh ran many events in the Corn Exchange. |

There were a lot of big names who gigged at Newbury in the sixties. Many of the sixties "pop stars" still appear at the Anvil and the Hexagon. Newbury no longer has a venue big enough to support the audience who would cover the cost.
So who can remember some of the bands who played Newbury, i will start you off. The Animals. The Who. Johny Kidd & the Pirates. |

Jo Jo Gunne? The Three Degrees (on the base?)
Later... Nils Lofgren Steve Howe Bernie Marsden Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas Madness Simply Red UB40
Silks hosted: Bernie Tormé, Tigers of Pan Tang, The Enid, Brian Connolly's Sweet, Bad Manners
When was the Newbury Rock Festival in Northcroft? What was the bill? I think BrainB has mentioned it before. |

You would find a lot more if you went to the library to check out the "Whats on" pages of NWN for 1967 1968 and 1969.
P P Arnold and Chris Farlowe are 2 more that I can remember. Not forgetting our own local band Soul Reason.
The resident DJ was Frank Inglut.
Don't forget all of the Radio 1 DJ's who appeared at the Henwick (Hamiltons) |

Crikey, i had forgot all about Soul Reason, which brings me on to the following question. Who, apart from Ricky ( & some of the Gamblers ) are still playing ! |
