Punctuation is dire .................
WHAT TO DO IN HALF-TERM - there is lots happening around the area in half term find out more here. If you want fresh air then try nest box building at Beale Park or bushcraft at the Nature Discovery Centre or if it is a rainy day and you want something to do in the warm and dry the there are shows at the theatre or crafts activities at Shaw House.
......... and is is really £45 to see Rod Stewart ? |

I think £45.00 is about the going rate if it is a full set ~1.5 hours. |

It's FROM £45. If you want a seat where you can see / hear him properly it's about £95.
'course being some way from the stage will at least mean you won't hear his knees popping...

That's a good advert for the town and local area.
It was called Visit Newbury rather than Visit West Berkshire because it was felt Newbury was more of a significant landmark. You may remember back in 1998, the then fledgling Unitary Authority decided after "extensive" public consultation that we should be called West Berkshire District rather than Newbury District. This involved changing everything at tremendous cost to the taxpayer from Newbury District Council to West Berkshire District Council. Thats how we ended up with our pretty green colour. The initial cost of the website was/is £25,000 |

"There is a huge wealth of great days out in the Newbury area." This is the first sentence I read. Did they get a Newbury Pole to write this rubbish? |

Obviously written by someone who is a little bit illiterate.
"Lambourn is known as Valley of the Racehorse as it is home to over many of the country's top trainers. To visit the stables, meet the stars of the racing world and have a great day out visit the village on Good Friday." |

From memory, I think we (or the select few who are allowed to participate in these public consultations) had a choice of 3. 1. Newbury District Council which already existed and would have been virtually zero cost. 2. Newbury & West Berkshire District Council, which if we were going to change was more definitive and could have been changed gradually. 3. West Berkshire District Council, which was more obscure and would cost a lot of money to change all of the stationery, road signs etc. Guess which one we chose. |

For general enquiries about this website or how to find out how your business can benefit from being featured, please contact one of the Visit Newbury team at: Visit Newbury Shaw House Church Road Shaw Newbury Berkshire RG14 2DR
tel: 01635 519 397 e: tourism@westberks.gov.uk w: http://www.visitnewbury.org.ukOh, a website that mimics the Italian granite. Not fit for purpose. I do hope whoever is behind this resigns. What a waste of taxpayer's money. |

I think you are being a little unfair with your criticisms. It has not been officially launched and it is a large website. There are bound to be a few gremlins in the system.
I am sure that the “team” at visit Newbury will be grateful for your input, so that they can rectify the mistakes before the official launch. |

My vote went to West Berkshire - for two reasons. 1 Much of the area has very little attachment to Newbury and 2 I was p*****d off about the disappearance of Berkshire and wanted at least one of the UAs to keep the name alive. I didn't realise that the consultation was limited - I got a form through the post, filled it in and sent it back, and assumed everyone else had the same opportunity. |

Berkshire hasn't disappeared. It existed when it was NDC. If ever there was an advert for wasting money, the change in name is it. Would we spend it now is the question I ask, and one that should have been asked at the time.

£25k? You could have got a good one with that? Surely it is just based on a pre-existing template like most site providers do. ...only joking. |

Maybe ....... but you are right !! I guess WBC had to do something though. If they don't promote Newbury they get critisised, and then they do this and it's not great either. Like Brian said - presumably the words will be re-written - and there is a shop on the site that no longer exists ... |

Given that a picture of the Bull at Streatley is used as the example of pubs and inns it would make sense if it appeared in the pub listing.
Donnington Valley Hotel is used to illustrate the Stay section - but isn't in the hotel listing.
Esseborne Manor (and others) appear as accessible places to stay - but not in the main listings.
Congratulations on avoiding the trap of limiting listings to West Berks and including pubs and hotels nearby in Hampshire.
But black mark for limiting attractions to West Berks and excluding Highclere Castle and Sandham Memorial Chapel. If you want to encourage tourism to Newbury you need to make the most of the relatively few attractions available.
The website is not bad, the content is iffy - if they are looking for comment on the website design then I quite like it. But they need to sort out the content.

Just found stuff on Highclere Castle on another page - I guess the message is to sort out the listings before the site goes live. |

The site does need some fine tuning but overall I think that it is a good effort. it is not the way I would have designed it, but then the project is too big for me anyway. I have had no input into it, but I am 99% in favour of what they have achieved.
If I wanted to nitpick, they have indicated copyright to www.visitnewbury.co.uk but that can soon be changed |

But Highclere isn't in Newbury!! User 23 will be upset - he'll have to have a word with his missus! |
