Now very much an ex-cop, but was old bill, (noted for his - *cough* - 'hands-on' approach to policing) then moved to a cilivian job at the nick where he was in charge of licensing 'door operatives'. Then left that and now owns, runs, his own company providing 'door cover' to local establishments.
Those less generous than us would say that when he was old bill he had conditions put on all town pub licenses so that they had to have door staff, then he ensured that all door staff 'owed him one' because he signed off on their applications, and then left the old bill and started a company providing his door operative friends to local pubs which he himself had ordered they had to have. Nice work if you can get it.
At least, that's what those less generous would say. Personally I couldn't comment.
However, he was known very much as an old time copper. It was always fifty-fifty if he'd arrest you or take you up the nearest alleyway and give you a good hiding. Laudable in some cases, but he started to pick on people for little reason and towards the end of his career, quite often the wrong people completely.
