Newbury Town Council has been invited to respond to the latest (and probably final) consultation related to the West Berkshire Core Strategy.  The Core Strategy is a key document prepared by the Planning Authority that will guide development through West Berkshire over many years, in line with the ever changing planning policy.

To help ensure that all residents of Newbury (and in particular those most impacted by its content) understand and have a say in this critical document, Newbury Town Council is holding a public meeting at Newbury Rugby Club, at 7pm on Wednesday 7 December 2011.  The theme of the meeting is "Planning the Future of Newbury".

The 1,000-page Core Strategy consultation document is detailed, technical and complex.  The Town Council's public meeting is intended to help the town's residents to understand exactly what is being proposed. The deadline for responses is 16 December 2011.

The Kennet Shopping Centre is to offer the children of Newbury, the opportunity to meet Santa Claus on Saturday 10th December 2011.

Kennet Shopping have confirmed that Santa Claus/Father Christmas will be arriving in the centre to meet all the children and find out whose been naughty and nice!

Mag Williams, Centre Manager has confirmed that the decision to have a Father Christmas has come about due to the obvious choices of Parkway, Camp Hopson and the new Debenhams store choosing not to take up the reins this year.  In previous years, the Kennet Centre have joined forces with Debenhams, however due to their move to Parkway, this was not an option this year.  In 2011, Kennet shopping will offer all children, of Newbury, up to the age of 10 the opportunity to meet Santa and pick up a present FREE OF CHARGE.  

As Kennet Shopping will be the only venue in central Newbury to have a Father Christmas and to offer it free of charge, they are expecting a huge number of people to visit that day. Father Christmas will be in the centre on the 10th December 2011 and will appear at various intervals all day from 9am to 5pm.

Kennet Shopping will continue to offer its loyal shoppers opportunities to save money and reward them with excellent choice, plenty of available parking and a safe, affordable, fun environment to shop.  Shoppers are encouraged to arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Kennet Shopping has continued to serve Newbury since 1972; it has undergone many enhancements over the years, with the addition of a supermarket in 1982, a speciality mall in 1984, a multi storey car park and a small office building.  In 2009, the new cinema extension opened, increasing the site to more than 300,000 sq feet.  It is home to among others, Laura Ashley, Cargo, TK Maxx, Poundland and Pizza Express.
