Jewel thieves have grand designs

BURGLARS made off with a £40,000 haul of Cartier jewellery and designer gear from a house in Old Bath Road last week.

The raiders forced the French doors on the afternoon of Friday June 4, and made off with rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings, as well as a laptop and cash.

House and car burglary is on the up in Newbury, and WPC Tracy Cole urged residents to keep ‘em peeled.

“The majority of these items are very valuable,” she said, “in some cases limited edition pieces of designer jewellery by fashion houses such as Cartier and Bulgari, and we are appealing to everyone, particularly people in the trade, to contact us if approached by anyone selling the items.

“It would seem those responsible for the burglary were opportunists who struck very lucky when they picked this particular property, and I hope someone may have seen or heard something connected which can assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information should ring one of the police call centres on 0845 8 505 505, and ask for Tracy.
