Business should be brisk for pubs and shops in town this weekend, with three major events to draw in the crowds.
Music fans can enjoy the opening of the Newbury Summer Proms festival starting Saturday with musicians and dancers at several locations. Organisers have secured performances from leading jazz and classical outfits for the two-week event.
On Sunday, around 4,000 are expected for the annual Newbury carnival, with a procession round the town and attractions in the Wharf and Victoria Park.
And finally, that evening, publicans and bookies are hoping that interest in the Euro 2004 football tournament hasn't waned with England’s demise - and that punters will be up for watching Greece vs Portugal. |
