Car mechanics learn computer skills
18th August 2004 9.27am

Three teenaged car mechanics with almost no computer skills have all passed their first IT exam at Newbury College.

Lydon Benson, Tom Clark and Shaun Harkness, all 19, are training as mechanics at Ben's Garage (Hungerford), Gurney's of Newbury and Greenmeadow, but took time out to learn a new skill.

Shaun commented, "Although I don't use computers very often in my day to day work at Greenmeadows, I found I really enjoyed the IT course and learnt a lot."

Key Skills Course Leader Julie Anderson said "this is a fantastic achievement because all three, up until this point, had almost no experience of IT and were only able to use the most basic functions of a computer. They have learnt a valuable skill that will last them for the rest of their lives and increase their careers opportunities."
