Opinion splits as poll hots up
20th September 2004 03.35am

Three Newbury buildings have emerged as frontrunners in the race to find the town’s best-loved building.

More than 400 people have voted in Newbury.net’s latest poll so far, with the Granary, Watermill and Corn Exchange collecting 49 per cent of the vote.

On 18 per cent, the Tudor Granary building has been narrowly in the lead since the poll began two weeks ago, with the town’s two theatres both tucked in behind on 15 per cent apiece.

Website editor Brian Burgess said: “These polls are just a bit of fun really, but they do give a glimpse of public opinion. So far, the character buildings have the edge over modern architecture, like the library and college.”

The poll will finish tomorrow (Tuesday), and a league table assembled, so if you still haven’t voted and you want to take part, click now!
