| At 7.45pm on Wednesday last week, the couple were sat in their living room at home in Holt Road when, a man barged in and grabbed the husband. He walked him to the window and told him to look outside. Three other men then came into the house and, following a search they ran away from the scene.
Although distressed, the old man was able to go to a neighbour who then called police, but on his way back home, tripped, fell and cut his head.
DC Rob Tomblin, of Newbury CID, said: “The thieves found the man’s life savings in an upstairs room and escaped with this large sum of cash. Add to this the trauma of being man-handled in your own home as well as suffering a fall and you begin to see the ordeal this couple are trying to recover from.
“I need to hear from anyone with any suspicions about who was involved. This was a very nasty incident and those responsible need to be caught. Both victims are elderly, infirm, and vulnerable - in short an easy target. Please contact me if you have any information whatsoever.”
There are no firm descriptions of the offenders, though the first one in the house is white, aged between 18 and 20, around 5ft 8ins, of medium build with short brown hair and dark clothing.
It is also possible the offenders had a vehicle near by and any information on this would be very useful to the inquiry. |
