| An example of ‘teamship’ was recently witnessed in the Kennet Shopping Centre when security staff were alerted to what initially appeared as a domestic argument between a man and woman. Handled differently this could have quickly resulted into the abduction of a child.
On Friday afternoon, 22 October, the security control room in the Kennet Shopping Centre were alerted to a situation in the centre; communications between the control room and their staff on the ground allowed them to observe this situation at a distance using their internal cameras.
Tensions heightened when the child was taken into Debenhams by the male, away from his mother. Security staff became concerned for the safety and welfare of the child. Using their shopsafe radios, Kennet Centre Security alerted Debenhams and the town’s CCTV, enlightening them of the situation, in order to assist with continuity of observations as reported.
The police were alerted to the scene and due to communication processes in place, CCTV was able to provide current information as it occurred. Due to the controlled and calm way in which the security personnel worked together, a situation which could so easily have turned more serious ended peacefully.
