| Once bitten…
A man was attacked by a Jack Russell on the canal towpath at West Fields, and then pushed by the 65-year-old dog owner when he complained, police said today.
The altercation happened near Butson Close, near the Monkey Bridge, just before 10pm on Monday night. The 44-year-old Newbury man walked past the older man, who was walking four black and white terriers, when one of them snapped at his ankle. Although uninjured, he protested to the older man, who pushed him and threatened to push him in the canal. Police would like information on the 60-65 year old, who was grey and balding, and 5’ 8” to 5’ 10” tall.
Mum finds dying son
A man was found dead by his own mother recently. Anthony Kendrick Charman, 30, of Newbury, was found submerged in the bath, and was taken to Basingstoke Hospital, where he died on October 17. An inquest will be held at Newbury Town Hall next Thursday at 3.30pm.
Garage raid foiled
Crooks tried to break into a garage in Three Acre Road, St Johns, last weekend. A jemmy had been used on the garage door, but nothing was taken.
Show us the money
Police have now found the plastic suitcase stolen from two security guards who were delivering £14,000 cash to Nationwide Building Society in Newbury last week.
As first revealed on the town’s number one community website, the pair were parked outside the branch when two men crept up behind them, grabbed the cash, and disappeared down the side of Superdrug.
An old grey Rover 800 or 216 was seen speeding away up Strawberry Hill, and police would like to speak to the driver. The case was later found by a member of the public in Speen Hill Close, off Bath Road.
DC Chris Pullen of Newbury CID said: “It may be that the Rover has nothing to do with the robbery. If so, I need to speak to the driver to eliminate the car from our inquiry.
“I am also appealing for information from anyone who was in Northbrook Street and may have witnessed the robbery, or in Northcroft Lane and may have seen the Rover car and its occupants.
“The case which contained the money was later found by a member of the public in Speen Hill Close, off the Bath Road, and I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the case being discarded.”
