| Two local schools scored full marks for teaching English, Maths and Science, according to new government results published today.
Tests for 11 year olds put Curridge Primary School at the top of the local league table for the second year running, after scoring 100% in the three key subjects. Brightwalton also scored perfectly to put the two village schools in a league of their own.
For Newbury and its suburbs, Woolton Hill topped the chart with almost full marks, closely followed by Falkland – which is close to St Bartholomews and Newbury’s most oversubscribed primary school.
However, on the Nightingales estate, just a quarter of pupils passed their English, with similar results for maths, leaving the school with its lowest score since rankings were introduced for primaries three years ago.
Winchcombe, Speenhamland, and Shaw-cum-Donnington, which have all been involved in plans by West Berkshire Council to merge or move them, all showed big improvements.
