| Engineers who designed the A34 underpass have been appointed to fit out Newbury’s first ‘pay on exit’ parking system.
Transport experts WSP have been hired to supervise the installation of the £100,000 system in the Kennet Centre car park, after years of lobbying by retailers.
Traders hope the Oracle-style parking will encourage shoppers to stay longer in town, without worrying whether they will get a parking ticket.
The contractors are expected to start installing the new meters in February, and the scheme should go live in March.
Elsewhere, West Berkshire Council will begin installing new solar-powered pay and display meters around Newbury from April. |
