| Car crime has fallen by a sixth since police installed inner-city style “loot in your boot” signs on lampposts across West Berkshire.
The signs sprang up last summer in a joint campaign with West Berkshire Council to cut car crime further, even though it was falling already.
There were almost 250 less accounts of damage to vehicles, theft of or from cars, and vehicle interference.
Newbury Crime Reduction Officer PC Dale Schnelting said 72 signs had been put up, and noted the decrease as “impressive.” |
