| A parking scheme for residents of the West Fields area of Newbury starts today (21st February). From today only vehicles displaying a valid permit will be allowed to park within the allocated residents only parking areas and be exempt from the 2 hour limited waiting areas where indicated. All other vehicles must comply with the signed restrictions.
Sally Hannon, Councillor for Highways and Transportation said, "Westfields is the first of eight zones across Newbury that will benefit from a residents parking scheme. The scheme is part of the Council's overall Street Parking Strategy which aims to make best use of available road space for parking, balancing the needs of residents, workers, shoppers and visitors."
The police have given full support to the scheme, which includes resident only parking areas, 2 hour limited waiting areas and no waiting areas and Traffic Wardens will patrol the zones to ensure that drivers abide by the rules.
The scheme was subject to extensive public consultation prior to approval including a public exhibition and presentations to the Newbury Area Forum.
The cost of a resident's permit is £25 per year and visitor permits are in the form of scratch cards and are valid for one day. Visitor permits cost £2.50 per booklet with each booklet containing five cards.
All households within the zone will have received a letter and an application form for the scheme. For further information residents should call (01635) 519213/4. |
