| A BRAVE group of colleagues in Newbury raised more than £3,000 for local breast cancer specialists by baring all for a calendar shoot.
Both ladies and men from Sovereign Housing Association’s Property Services team went the ‘full monty’ to raise vital funds for the Charles Clore Macmillan Day Unit, after hearing how well friends and colleagues with breast cancer had been treated at the Newtown Road centre.
Sovereign colleagues Gill Blackmore and Sally Munday organised the fundraiser. Gill said: “We were astounded at the generosity of colleagues and contractors. The nurses and therapists do marvellous work, and we are very lucky to have such a facility in Newbury.”
Colleagues and relatives lapped up the limited edition calendars, and contractors happily sponsored the cause to raise the staggering £3180.56 total in just three months.
The cash will go towards supporting the Charles Clore team of aromatherapists, psychologists, hydrotherapists, and dieticians, as well as paying for some new equipment.
Day therapy team leader Maria Heron added: “We had 20 breast cancer patients to help in the last year, out of 60 with life-threatening illnesses. But we know there are more people who need our help, and this money will help get our message across.”
If anyone knows someone who suffers from a progressive illness, such as heart disease, cancer, or breathing problems, should call 01635 523680 to see how the Charles Clore unit can help. Doctor referrals are not necessary, and the doors are open for all. |
