Despite strong objections from local groups and 24 neighbours, town planners are prepared to agree to the scheme, as long as developer Renaissance Habitat hands over £120,600 .

But the developer has disputed that more than £8,600 from each flat should be handed over to support schools, parks, road improvements and extra CCTV.

Earlier plans were rejected by planners, so unless a compromise can be struck by decision day next Wednesday, the planners said they would throw it out.
