| After being approached by associates and friends, local businessman Nick Cornish has decided to run as an independent candidate for Newbury and the surrounding areas.
Having lived and worked in the local community for 36 years, Nick feels that Newbury, like any seat, deserves to have representation that genuinely speaks on its behalf rather than attempting to tow the line of a central party that does not necessarily reflect local issues and views.
From a personal standpoint, Nick has grown disillusioned with inter-party bickering restricting achievement of the best course of action over a particular issue and feels that more can be gained from taking local opinion and using this as the driving force behind any policy.
Taking this common sense approach into central government seems the obvious route and Nick is confident that the majority of the voting public shares similar views, however, their options have always been presented to them as party focused.
Nick comments, “I compliment what David Rendel has achieved during his time in office, however, I offer a fresh approach, free from the central party political restraints. There are good people in all the parties but they generally conform to their party policies – whereas the people of Newbury are the sole influence on my agenda.”
“I’m going into this venture with an open mind but, on the basis that people would … I don’t expect to compete with the larger parties on a national platform but I am confident that I can offer more value at a local level and that is what I’d like to think matters to the local voter.”
Over the next four week canvassing period the Nick Cornish School of Motoring vehicles will carry the additional Vote Cornish branding and Nick hopes that this exercise will raise the profile of all Independent Candidates.
“I think we should listen to the young because they are our future. We should speak to the people that are actually doing the work to get the true facts about their concerns and look after the senior members of our society because they have helped mould the way we live today.”
“I’m not looking to canvas doorsteps and I will not make any promises I can’t keep but I would like to here from anyone with concerns or those who agree with the above and want to help to work together as a team.” |
