Fightback for small traders in Newbury
14th June 2005 9.57am

Life for Newbury’s struggling retailers could be about to get easier, if plans for 18 new poster sites get the go-ahead.

Plans have been lodged to install the pillars to display up to 18 posters each for local events and businesses only, to help redress Newbury’s clone town reputation.

The Nottingham firm behind the plans claims that the pillars reduce the need for A-boards, flyposting and lamppost clutter, with advertising revenue going to West Berkshire Council.

The new pillars are to go outside Next, Caffe Uno, the Corn Exchange, Wharf Street, Jessops, McDonalds, Monsoon, the Clocktower, Victoria Park and Coopers Arms.

Others will be positioned at St Barts School, Falkland Memorial, Stroud Green, Northcroft pool, and the retail park
