Workman critical after accident at Camps
11th July 2005 10.7am

Police are currently at the scene of an incident at a building works in Newbury town centre.

They have sealed off the area and are awaiting the arrival of the Health and Safety Executive following the incident, which was reported to them by ambulance crews at 8am and has left a man with critical injuries.

Officers were called to outside Camp Hopson on Northbrook Street by emergency medical crews after a male worker on the site was injured by a falling girder.

He has been rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading and is currently in surgery. No further details of him are available at this time.

The area in Northbrook Street is currently closed to all traffic, including buses. The incident is likely to be handed over to the Health and Safety Executive.
