Newbury cinema delayed again
28th July 2005 14.46pm

It has emerged that Newbury is unlikely to be watching films at the new Cheap Street cinema until 2007, newbury.net can reveal.

Work on the planned six-screen multiplex was all set to begin in September, but has been put back again until January.

The project has already been delayed by over two years, after the original operator went bankrupt, plus design changes and protracted talks over the £500,000 public subsidy of the venture.

In February, workmen were expected on site by September, but it has since come to light that a start date by the end of the year has been ruled out.
