Traffic talk
02nd August 2005 11.49am

Another new strategy is planned for the A4 between Newbury and Reading. West Berkshire Council is setting up a steering group to improve traffic flow and road safety on one of the safer of West Berkshire’s major roads.

The Tory cabinet in charge of the council will discuss the issue on August 11, and councillor for transport Keith Chopping said: "The objective of the study will be to investigate and propose practical measures to improve traffic flow and road safety along the A4 for all modes of transport. I have been lobbying for this study for some years and I am pleased that as the Executive Member for Transport I am now in a position to try to take the project forward."

Traffic in Newbury has reached pre-bypass levels in just five years, and previous studies of various roads have suggested dual carriageways, bus lanes and cyclepaths.
