Last orders for Newbury pubs this weekend
02nd August 2005 11.54am

Around half of Newbury’s pubs wish to extend their hours, causing a logjam of applications for 11th hour licences, newbury.net can reveal.

Almost 30 pubs, off-licences and other venues have been warned to apply for a new licence before the deadline of Saturday, or risk losing historic privileges.

The Lock Stock and Barrel, Lion, Monument, Wellington and Old Waggon and Horses are all looking to open until midnight or later, and many want to introduce an hour’s drinking up time.

If the pubs don’t get their way, police are preparing to close down those without proper licences on Sunday.
