Fifty Vodafone staff were told today that they would lose their jobs by the end of the year, newbury.net can reveal.
The town’s biggest employer, which makes £21,000 a minute profit, is planning to cut an administrative department from 75 to 24 before Christmas, and sent staff home this afternoon (Tuesday 27th).
Staff, some of whom have worked for the mobile phone firm for 18 years, found out this morning. Most of the redundancies are believed to affect the offices at Bartholomew Court in Bartholomew Street.
The move comes after rationalization of half of Vodafone’s 1200 staff employed in the Potteries. Vodafone employs nearly 4,000 in West Berkshire.
