Dual carriageway in doubt
30th September 2005 22.09pm

Plans to turn Pinchington Lane into a dual carriageway are in doubt after a developer refused to hand over a vital strip of land to West Berkshire Council – newbury.net can reveal.

A scheme to replace the Jehovah’s Witness church with a 30ft high retail shed had been approved by district planners last year, but the applicant failed to sign up to the condition that it would give away a strip of land alongside Pinchington Lane to make it wide enough for a dual carriageway, along with a £20,000 donation towards the scheme. As a result, the council has revoked the planning consent.
