| New doctors surgery for Newbury
A new doctors’ surgery is planned for the north of the town to cope with the housing boom. Brackley Investments has applied to build a new practice in the meadow running along the Oxford Road, by Grove Road junction. The developers had previously attempted to build the practice on Speen recreation ground, but this was rejected by Sutton Estates, Speen Parish Council and several angry residents. The nearby St Mary’s Practice is three times overcapacity.
Mencap shop for sale
Landlords of the Mencap charity shop in Bartholomew Street have put the shop on the market, priced at £400,000. The shop has been there 10 years, but property agents say the shop is for sale or rent. The deal also includes planning consent to build four studio apartments on the floor above.
Car dealership to go in at Hambridge
Newbury Racecourse’s plans to build a new one way system after buying £2m of land from Opperman Mastergears in Hambridge Lane seems uncertain, after Opperman applied to flatten its factory and rent the land as a car dealership. The move is for a three-year period, after Opperman made redundancies earlier this year.
