| Speen residents trying to stop Donnington Grove Golf Club moving footpaths so it can create a £30m golf tournament for the town have just one more day to get their objections in.
Neighbours and dogwalkers have reacted strongly to plans by the club owners, Sandtrend, after insurers threatened not to cover the English Open tournament due to risk of injury from flying balls.
More than 70 residents attended Speen Parish Council on Monday night to hear local objections, and to quiz local West Berkshire Councillors about what would happen. Residents have also woken up to the fact that if the golf club becomes commercially unviable, the company may have to sell the site for housing.
West Berkshire Council’s legal department is collecting views until tomorrow, when it will decide whether moving the footpaths is possible. Both Speen and Shaw-cum-Donnington parish councils have objected.
