Assault in Walton Way
14th November 2005 9.20am

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following an incident in Newbury on November 3.

A male in his early twenties was dropped off in Newport Road, Newbury at around 12.30am and was walking along the A4 towards Thatcham when he was grabbed by a man, he pulled free and ran off.

He waited for a while and then went to the park in Walton Way to smoke a cigarette, where he was assaulted.

The victim, who will not be named but lives locally, was left shocked and shaken and is now working with police to bring the offender to justice.

the offender was white, of average build and wearing dark grey or brown stone-wash keans which were starting to wear on the seams. He was wearing a black belt with a square-shaped silver buckle and black shoes.

Det Con Kathryn Rolfs from Newbury CID is investigating the incident and is appealing for people who were in the area at the time to come forward. she also wants to speak to people who were in the flats overlooking the park that morning who may have seen or heard anything.

The incident was the night of the storms, which may jog someone's memory and it may be that someone matching the description of the offender and his clothes came home that evening very wet.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Con Rolfs via 0845 8 505 505. Those who do not wish to speak to police or leave their name can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
