Council rotates castle without planning permission
20th November 2005 8.36am

Newbury.net have uncovered a plan by West Berkshire Council to rotate the remains of Donnington Castle through 180 degrees.

It is believed that the scheme has been in existence ever since the creation of the West Berkshire web site at http://www.westberks.gov.uk The council might have got away with it had it not been for the damage caused to the gatehouse during the Second Battle of Newbury. This can be clearly seen on the rotated image.

We trust that the good citizens of Newbury will oppose any planning application that would result in this dastardly scheme proceeding.

English Heritage, who own the castle were unavailable for comment.
