The electricity supply has now been restored to all of the units on the Newbury Retail Park following the explosion and fire in an electrical transformer, which closed most of the units yesterday afternoon. (Saturday 10th)

Engineers from Scottish and Southern Energy worked late into the night to restore supplies to all of the retail units desperate to claw back lost sales after yesterday’s closure. Homebase was the only unit which managed to stay open.

The fire caused major disruptions to traffic on the A339 and queues were reported to be tailing back as far as the Burger King roundabout.

Tesco’s on the opposite side of Pinchington Lane and the Newbury Motor Park were unaffected by the problems.
