| Chaos descended on Hambridge Road yesterday afternoon (Dec 22nd). Police fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene of a 3 vehicle accident outside the Scottish Energy building.
The accident happened just after 4.30pm. Police closed the road for 45 mins to allow the fire service to remove the roof from a Peugeot 106 to release the driver who was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
The other vehicles involved were a Toyota Celcia and a Saab 95. Considerable queues built up in all directions as motorists struggled to find an alternative route home.
The road reopened again at 5.30pm and the debris had been cleared by 7.00pm.
Hambridge Road is a critical link for commuters between Newbury and Thatcham and the resultant diversions caused serious congestion in other areas of the town including the Robin Hood Roundabout and the A339. |
