| Tenants of the flats in Newbury Market Place have been having sleepless nights since the introduction of the new licensing laws.
Noise and revelry now goes on nearly all night at weekends according to one tenant who did not wish to be named. The flats overlook the Market Place and the Arcade.
“Our lives are a misery at weekend” said the tenant “We have to put up with shouting singing and screaming as groups of yobbos roam the streets” “the arcade is being used as a public toilet with some people urinating through our letterboxes”. “we have written to the council requesting better toilet facilities in town , but they just ignore our letters”
“The noise starts on Thursday nights, reaches a crescendo on Friday nights/Saturday morning and then tails off into the early hours of Sunday morning. Although we are even getting problems on Sunday now that Liquid opens on a Sunday night.
Work is just about to start on the Market Place to convert it to a continental piazza to improve the ambience of the café quarter. |
