| Taxpayers money could be used so council officials can hire a “champion of walking” to encourage us to use the countryside more. The part-time job comes as West Berkshire Council prepares to spend £20,000 making the countryside wheelchair friendly, so it doesn’t fall foul of disability laws. The job won’t be ratified until the Tory-run authority has approved next year’s budget and council tax rise.
It does follow the recent recruitment of an ethnic minority support teacher, a school meals coordinator, and an officer to supervise out-of-hours activities in schools. |
