| Brickies back
The Bricklayers pub in Bartholomew Street opened again this weekend after a week-long refit. The pub was last refitted two years ago, and is owned by the same pub group as the Hatchet/Berkshire Tavern.
A stitch in time
Seamstress outfit Sew Quick has closed in the Kennet Centre, creating an empty unit by the Debenhams entrance. However, Plus Shops is busy talking to a range of possible outlets eager to set up in Newbury.
Vodafone office sale
The former Vodafone office at Woodlands in Bartholomew Street has been put on the market for £3.6m. The mobile phone firm made 180 jobs redundant late last year. Deal Varney have been appointed to handle the sale, as empty office space continues to soar.
Developer for Market Street
London developer Grainger Trust is still believed to be in pole position to be selected to build over the bus station, and car parks between Market Street and the railway station. More than 200 flats are expected in the final design, along with a plaza and parade of shops. David Wilson Homes, Miller Homes and Redrow have also been shortlisted, as revealed by newbury.net in December. West Berkshire Council will choose the winning design next month, when the public will be invited to make comments. |
