Fines pour in from bridge rebels
13th March 2006 0.0am

Park Way Bridge may not be doing much for the takings of local shopkeepers, but Thames Valley Police has raked in more than £12,000 in fines from hapless motorists nipping over the bridge.

More than 400 fines worth £30 each have been handed out since the bridge closed a month ago. If the bridge remains shut until July, the police stand to collect more than £60,000.

Meanwhile, Newbury Buses and the police are lobbying the council for the bridge to remain closed to cars
