| A second sculpture in Newbury’s Town Trail project will be placed on the Robin Hood roundabout this summer.
Town planners have given the thumbs-up for a 20ft tall steel model of a “couple in conversation”. Newbury Town Council secured the planning on behalf of the Town Trail Group, and local artist Johannes Von Strumm can now get to work completing the long-awaited addition to Newbury.
Initial plans to install the sculpture on the St John’s roundabout were thwarted by West Berkshire Council, who are now planning a CCTV camera instead. The Town Trail group also looked at the Pinchington Lane/A339 roundabout, before main sponsor Colefax Trust rejected the move.
With options running out, the Robin Hood emerged as the favoured spot late last year. |
