Teenage tantrums at Newbury Youth Court
27th March 2006 16.41pm

A 14 year old teenager flew into a rage and punched a prosecutor before throwing a jug of water over the magistrates earlier this morning (Monday).

The teenager, Leanne Black was before Newbury Youth Court charged with taking a vehicle without consent, driving without a license, drink driving and driving whilst disqualified.

This is the second time that Leanne has been before the Newbury magistrates for driving offences. When she was 12, she is thought to have become Britain’s youngest drink-driver and was disqualified for 2 years.

When she was sentenced to spend time in secure accommodation, she flew into a rage and started screaming obscenities. She kicked over a chair and punched prosecutor Lesley Gilmore in the back. She then hurled a jug of water over the magistrates before being restrained by security staff.

She had earlier informed magistrates that she had mended her ways.

Before the attack, the court took the unusual step of saying she could be named in the public interest.
