National notoriety for teenage drink driver
29th March 2006 1.8am

The national press descended on Newbury and Thatcham yesterday (Tuesday) in an attempt to get their own exclusive stories on the UK’s youngest drink driver.

This follows an outburst in Newbury Magistrates Court on Monday when Leanne Black aged just 14 was sentenced for her second drink driving offence. She ran amok in the courtroom, punching the prosecuting solicitor and throwing a jug of water over the magistrates.

Leanne was sentenced to 4 months in a secure institution and a further 4 months under supervision in the community. Magistrates were advised that they were unable to impose any further penalty for contempt of court.

The story was included on all national news bulletins on Monday evening and an ITN news crew complete with satellite truck reported live from Newbury and Thatcham. A Sunday newspaper is believed to be offering a four figure sum to the family for an exclusive story.
