Café gets thumbs up
05th June 2006 23.27pm

Newbury Town Council has backed plans to convert two town centre shops into food outlets.

At a meeting last Wednesday, town councillors supported the Nature’s Corner application to turn the shop at 9 Bartholomew Street into a café and delicatessen.

Town councillors also approved a planning application for a chinese restaurant at 101 Bartholomew Street, next to the Lighting Centre*.

The decision follows a glut of shop conversions in Northbrook Street, Cheap Street and Bartholomew Street, including Sunflower (now Chenz), J&S Bike Accessories (restaurant permission granted), part of Camp Hopson (to a bank), Potamus (estate agent), Speenhamland Post Office (estate agent), and Granny Pammys (Indian restaurant).

*We are sorry for any confusion that may have arisen from our original story. The Lighting Centre at 100 Bartholomew Street will be unaffected by this application.
The Lighting Centre will continue to trade successfully at 100 Bartholomew Street, as it has done for many years.
