Life begins at 40 for Carnival Organisers
18th June 2006 22.40pm

Newbury Carnival Organisers are looking for three extra entries ahead of the parade on 2nd July to hit the magic number 40.

Carnival Chairman, Bryan Harper, says, “We are absolutely delighted with the response from the town. Over 500 people are now taking part in the parade which will be a real spectacle for people to watch on Sunday afternoon (July 2nd).

Carnival Parade Co-ordinator, Jacquie Cooper added, “The Carnival banner is flying high in Northbrook St and looks great, we've got a big display in the Northbrook St branch of Newbury Building Society and posters in the foyer of Newbury Library, plus a colourful advert in this week's NWN2, excellent coverage on Kick FM and an excellent website, so not surprisingly, the entries are continuing to come in.”

The latest entries received include the following. West Berkshire Libraries - "the reading mission" (including the colourful CLIVe bus); The Corn Exchange - "London Town", Charter Travel - "80 days around the world" (a float entry, with lorry from C&B - these people actually know all about travelling the world in 80 days!); Newbury Buses Social Club (the first for our 'best dressed vehicle' category); British Red Cross (ambulance); West Berkshire Spokes - "it's quicker by bike!" (hopefully lots of cycles); Newbury Nomads - "Chess: the musical" (a walking / musical entry, featuring the countries involved in the musical ie. Russia, America, Thailand and Italy, apparently).

That brings us to a total of 37 Parade entries to date. Jacquie added, “It would be great to get 3 more and achieve Bryan's original hope of 40, if only to keep our Chairman happy!”
