| Thames Water has praised its Berkshire customers for cutting back on water use last month, after figures showed a 10% drop in demand during the hottest month on record.
The German-run firm, which is planning to build a large reservoir near Wantage, said demand was 10% lower in June and July on normal levels.
Head of Customer Policy, Duncan McCombie, said: “We want to say a big thank-you to all our customers who have been saving water during the drought, but, with temperatures high and the weather still dry, we need them to keep up the good work.
“We know the considerable fall in demand can’t simply be due to the current restrictions, because research suggests only one in three of our customers owns a hosepipe.
“It just goes to show that if everyone makes small changes to their daily routines, such as only switching the washing machine or dishwasher on when they are full, it can help make a big difference. “ |
