| It was billed as a community event to celebrate the completion of the town’s newest repaving project. But after several delays the Northbrook Street Party has been scrapped due to “circumstances beyond our control”.
After the first few months of dust and disruption saw visitor numbers plummet in Newbury, retailers asked the town centre manager to organize a street party to mark the opening of Northbrook Street six weeks ago.
With 14 sponsors in tow, street entertainment, music and shop promotions were all lined up, and the ongoing road closure providing a traffic-free zone.
After several abortive attempts, the town centre manager has given up on the idea and the event has been cancelled altogether. |
